Unlocking Digital Potential Through IT Transformation
LOCAL PROVIDER IN THE ENERGY SECTOR
Many organizations struggle with significant technical debt and an IT function that isn’t fully aligned with business needs. We supported our client in addressing both challenges by modernizing their IT infrastructure and establishing a strategic foundation for long-term digital development.
The client, a major player in the energy sector, had a neglected IT environment, outdated infrastructure, inefficient processes, and technical debt. These challenges were hindering both daily operations and the organization’s broader digital ambitions. The IT department was primarily focused on technology and first-line support, with limited ability to proactively support business needs. At the same time, the organization had developed a new business strategy centered on digitalization and efficiency however, progress was slow. Low digital maturity and fragmented data further held the organization back.
To move forward, executive leadership recognized the need for structural change: modernize the IT infrastructure, strengthen IT’s role, and ensure alignment between business and IT.
Together with key stakeholders, Differ developed a new IT strategy that focuses on four key areas: strengthening IT operations, building new digital platforms, becoming a digital partner to the business, and developing key competencies for future IT.
A structured change management process was an integral part of getting business and IT to work together more efficiently in the ongoing digitalization effort. This collaboration was essential in establishing the groundwork for the next phase: expediting digitalization.
With a new IT strategy in place and a clearly defined role for the IT function, we had the necessary foundation to develop a digital strategy for the entire organization. After analyzing the business needs, it became clear that the priority should be to transform data into a shared resource instead of keeping it locked in silos by deploying new technical platforms.
Differ was entrusted to lead a comprehensive transformation covering both operational and strategic dimensions.
We managed the procurement of a new operational partner in accordance with the Public Procurement Act (LUF) and led the transition project to ensure a controlled and seamless handover.
The transition was structured across five key service areas:
Workplace-as-a-Service
Server-as-a-Service
Infrastructure-as-a-Service
Cybersecurity-as-a-Service
Service-desk-as-a-Service
The result was a fully modernized IT environment, significantly improved service levels, and strengthened cybersecurity.
Parallel to the operational transformation, Differ worked closely with key stakeholders to develop a new IT strategy. The strategy focused on four areas: strengthening IT operations, building new digital platforms, becoming a digital partner to the business, and developing key competencies for future IT.

Once established, the IT strategy and digital strategy were integrated into the overall business development processes and the PMO for strategic initiatives. Aligning these new strategies with the business strategy and introducing changes to already established business processes were key factors in ensuring successful strategy implementation.
After the transition, the company now has a modernized IT infrastructure ready to meet future business needs. The IT department has formed a strong connection to the business, effectively bridging the previously identified gap. With strengthened operations, clear strategic direction, and a solid digital foundation, the organization is well-positioned for its continued digital journey.
